When I first learned about Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project, I was a grad student in San Francisco. Having just moved from my home in India to start a new chapter in the USA, I was keen to see what community would mean for me in this new context. I feel lucky that ANV is such a big part of it now. Food is at the center of how we show love, take care of ourselves, build relationships, and celebrate. It's central to the way we live, yet unique in all our cultures. What better way to bring people together and lift each other up? Acta Non Verba's work is rooted in community, nutrition, food justice, and the understanding that together we can go further, and be better than trying to do it alone.

Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project elevates life in Oakland, CA and beyond by challenging oppressive dynamics and environments through urban farming. Founded and led mainly by women of color, ANV creates a safe and creative outdoor space for children, youth, and families in East Oakland. ANV engages and deepens their understanding of nutrition, food production, and healthy living as well as strengthens their ties to the community. The three farms located in the City of Oakland are planned, planted, harvested and sold by youth in grades K-12. ALL of the profits are placed into individual savings accounts for the youth who participate.

I serve on the board of Acta Non Verba because I believe strongly in the mission and vision for a healthier, more equitable world — One in which every child feels like they belong exactly where they are, AND everywhere they go. Help me raise funds for this work and thank you for considering a donation.

Donations of any size go a long way to help. It truly takes a village!
